2021 Cystic Fibrosis PRSSA Competition 

Seven colleges competed in the A.J.F. PRSSA’s second annual competition to drive awareness of cystic fibrosis and raise funds for research, continuing Rowan’s tradition of honoring the memory of former student Colette Bleistine, a PRSSA leader who lost her life to cystic fibrosis. 

The winners in this year’s competition: Monmouth College, first place; Louisiana State University, second place: Susquehanna University, third place; and Ohio Northern, honorable mention. The winners will be formally recognized at the annual Fall National PRSSA Conference, and each will receive a cash prize.

Rowan University announces two prestigious awards. Rowan earned the No. 4 spot for its Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations Program, while also earning a spot on the 2021 Education A-List from PR News.

Study.com rated Rowan’s undergraduate PR program No. 4 out of hundreds of other universities because it, “boasts over half a century of experience and excellence, assuring students that their prestigious instructors, many of whom hold an Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), are research-focused and hold advanced degrees.” 

Each year, PR News announces the top 35 educational institutions for advancing public relations. The company wrote, “we looked at how the programs prepare students for continued success in their existing jobs and along their futures’ career paths. PRSSA's annual Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis Event is available! (JAN 2020)



PRSSA hosts the 2020 Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Competition during November, inviting chapters from around the country to host events and programs that benefit CF research


​PRSSA takes part in the JMG Rock Your Socks competition by donating money for 100 pairs of socks to NJ shelters and resource pantries in December 2020


AJF-PRSSA won the 2020 Teahan Award for University Service from PRSSA (Oct 2020). This award is given annual to one chapter that develops campaigns, plans, and tactics to help University initiatives and the community. 


Grace Coulthurst won a Presidential Citation from PRSSA (Oct 2020) for her dedication to philanthropy and special events.


Camryn Hadley (PRaction President) won Future Public Relations Professional Award by Johnson and Johnson!

This annual award recognizes an undergraduate student who demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of and commitment to the public relations profession. The winner will be honored at the PRSA NJ Pyramid Awards Banquet on September 23, 2020, at the Basking Ridge Country Club in Basking Ridge, NJ, and receive a cash scholarship of $3,000, Certificate of Achievement and one year membership for PRSA National and PRSA NJ.

Philly Ad Club Scholarship (Sep 2020)
Two Rowan University students that were nominated by professors from the Department of Public Relations and Advertising in May received scholarships from among top local university students. Grace Coulthurst received a $5,000 scholarship and LaTonia Carnegie received a $2,500 scholarship. Both students are advertising and public relations dual-majors.
 
The Philly Ad Club Educational Foundation and the Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association sponsored this year's group of Toyota Philly Ad Club Scholarships. The funds are awarded in varying amounts to deserving advertising students attending colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Outstanding PR Writing – Sean Barnett

This award recognizes a student who demonstrates outstanding writing skills in public relations courses and for PRSSA.

Sean Barnett is a senior Public Relations major and Strategic Communications minor. He transferred to Rowan from Rowan College at Gloucester County in the spring of 2019.  Sean is a PRSSA executive board member holding the Community Service Chair position. After graduating in fall 2020, he hopes to work in crisis communications.

Camryn Hadley

Camryn Hadley is a junior majoring in Public Relations and Advertising with minors in Journalism and New Media.  She has been working on Rowan University’s Social Media Team since her freshman year.  She has served as the Director of Marketing/Vice President for the Student University Programmers, AVP of Public Relations and Special Events for the Student Government Association and Communication Director for PRSSA.  In the future, Camryn hopes to use her social media and PR skills to help non-profits like Girl Scouts or anything to do with wild-life conservation.

David Halbert

David Halbert, an incoming senior, is majoring in Public Relations and Advertising.  Additionally, he is pursuing a minor in creative writing.  This past year, David held the position of Vice President of Professional Development for PRSSA.  Currently, David is an intern in the office of Student Affairs in Strategic Planning and Management Department.  David is excited for his upcoming senior year and making the most of these opportunities.

 Grace Coulthurst

Grace Coulthurst is a junior dual-major in Public Relations and Advertising with a minor in Communication Studies.  Grace serves as he VP of Special Events and Philanthropy for PRSSA.  She interns in Rowan’s Office of Media & Public Relations and previously interned with Atlantic Health System.  She aims for a career in media relations and crisis communication.

 Vanessa Livingstone

Vanessa Livingstone is a junior Public Relations and Advertising major from Rowan College at Burlington County. She is PRSSA’s President-Elect for the upcoming academic year and a Corporate Affairs Intern with Citizens Bank where she works on the bank's sponsorship of the Philadelphia Phillies. 

Outstanding PRaction Award – Madelyn Kane

Awarded to a PRaction member who excels in client relations and project completion. 

Madelyn Kane

Madelyn Kane is a Rowan University senior majoring in Advertising and Public Relations and minoring in Psychology.  She is a dedicated member of the AAF team that has worked tirelessly to develop a comprehensive advertising campaign for the prestigious national AAF competition.  Madelyn is a sales marketing intern at American Biltrite Corporation, and had experience working with clients helping to develop their research, copywriting, research and social media.  She enjoys the creative aspects of her majors and looks forward to applying them in her career after graduation. Her other interests include art, music and skiing.  

Anne Klein Professional Advisor Award – Ciara Sikking

Ciara Sikking is a double major in Mathematics and Public Relations and an active member of PRSSA, PRaction, and the Student Alumni Association.  Her favorite pastimes include playing piano and working out.  Next year she will return to Rowan as a teaching assistant and graduate student in the mathematics department.

Alyssa Bauer is a public relations major who is actively involved on-campus. She is PRaction’s Firm Director, a Digital Content Contributor for Enrollment Management & Marketing, and a PR Intern for Chemical Engineering. She’s passionate about hands-on experience that will prepare her for life post-grad.

Enzo Ronchi is 22 years old and a senior Public Relations major with a minor in Strategic Communication.  He is an active member of the Rowan PRSSA chapter e-board acting as Secretary.  Enzo is also a musician that loves playing guitar and loves all kinds of music.

Kim Herrera

Kim Herrera is a senior, dual majoring in Public Relations and Advertising and minoring in Sociology. She serves at the Fundraising Chair for AJF PRSSA and has previously served as the Vice President of PR and Recruitment for her sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Breyanna Chiles is a senior who majors in Public Relations with minors in Strategic Communications, Advertising, and Psychology.  Breyanna currently sits on AJF – PRSSA’s e-board as Treasurer.  Breyanna joined PRSSA to gain valuable work experience and build a network of communication professionals.  After graduation, she will be joining Wells Fargo Advisor’s Digital Product Development Team in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Marissa Brownstein

Marisa Brownstein is a senior double majoring in both public relations and advertising with a minor in strategic communications. She currently serves as the Director of Recruitment on the AJF PRSSA Executive Board, where she attends classroom visits and other events to recruit new members for the organization. After college, Marissa wants to pursue a career in crisis communication or healthcare communication.

Kelly McGarry is a senior public relations major with a minor in strategic communication. She currently serves as the Publications Editor on the AJF-PRSSA Executive Board, where she edits and designs the organization's monthly newsletter, PRomo. After college, Kelly would like to work in crisis communication or news media and continue writing and editing.

Griffin Gallagher is a senior Public Relations and Advertising major and Strategic Communications minor. He currently serves as President if AJF-PRSSA and has held three PR internships in the health care, travel/tourism, and publishing industries. After college, Griffin hopes to pursue a career in travel/tourism public relations.

Nick Kowaleski is a junior from Middletown, NJ. who is majoring in Public Relations and Advertising. He is involved with the Ad Club on campus and currently serves as the clubs treasurer. In his free time he is interested in sports and movies

Arianne Duenas

Arianne Duenas is a junior studying Advertising and Public Relations.  She aspires to use her strategic communication skills in the fashion industry.  She is currently the Service Chair for Rowan Ad Club.  This position has helped her introduce Ad Club members in ways to give back to the local community.  As an organization, they were able to sponsor the Thanksgiving meals for two families last year.   Ad Club has also donated canned goods to The Shop at Rowan.  She plans to create more volunteer opportunities for Ad Club members in the future.

Transferring to Rowan taught me more than I could have imagined. Through my internship at Gourmet Dining and participation in the Ad Dynamics club, I was engaged in a whole new world of learning and networking. My first year at Rowan was truly unforgettable.

Matthew Saalfrank is currently a Senior Advertising Major with minors in Marketing and Strategic Communications. He is also the current Senator for the Advertising Club and has been a member since his sophomore year. Marketing is Matthew’s passion and he hopes to one day become a successful Account Executive.

Matthew Magliozzo has served as Rowan Ad Club’s Senate Representative this past year.  He is currently a public relations intern at Brownstein Group in Philadelphia.  Matt has a strong interest in advertising and marketing and hopes to make a significant contribution working in the music industry.

Matthew Manley

Matthew Manley is currently a sophomore Advertising major who is minoring in Strategic Communications.  Besides academics, Matthew is the Student Senate Representative for the Ad Club and serves on their Executive Board.  In his spare time, Matthew enjoys football, baseball, video games, and being with his friends.

Sarah Allen

Sarah Allen is currently a sophomore with a major in Advertising and a double minor in Sports Communication & Media and Strategic Communications. Sarah is a current member of the Ad Club. Sarah's hobbies outside of academics include baking, cooking, being with her friends, and watching hockey

Jude Desinor

Jude Desinor is a senior at Rowan University from Hamilton, New Jersey.  He transferred from Mercer County Community College in fall of 2018 with an Associate’s degree in Advertising and Graphic Design.  Since then, Jude has been studying Advertising and working to find his place in his desired field.

Angelica Petroche is currently a freshman at Rowan University.  She is majoring in Advertising with a minor in Strategic Communication.  Angelica is involved in PRISM, Ad Club, Volunteer Club, and ULA.  She also works at Pflegger Hall at the performing arts building as an usher a couple days throughout the week.

Karly Guevara

Karly Guevara is an advertising major and proud to be a part of Rowan University’s student ad agency, Ad Dynamics.  After graduating in 2021, she plans to attain a job in advertising for the fashion or casino industries.

Michael Ricciardi

Michael is a junior who has been a dedicated member of the Ad Club since his sophomore year.  He has a strong passion for the field of advertising that is evident in the high quality of his projects can be best defined by their creativity, content, and presentation.

Chase Campbell is currently a junior studying with a major in Advertising and minors in Strategic Communication and Communication Studies.  Aside from his academics, he is the president of Rowan University’s Advertising Club, co- founder/vice president of the Men of Color Alliance and a resident assistant.

Donald Bagin Graduate Public Relations Medallion

This medallion, sponsored by the Public Relations/Advertising Department, is in honor of Donald Bagin, founder of the PR graduate program, and given to a graduate student who has earned a superior academic GPA, has shown significant work or internship experience, and shows a potential for substantial contribution to the PR field.

Erika Solis

Erika Solis is the graduate assistant for Rowan’s Department of Public Relations and Advertising. She’s graduating this spring with her master’s degree in strategic communication. Erika has accepted an offer to attend Penn State University for Fall 2020 to pursue her Ph.D. in Mass Communication.

Bagin Educational Foundation Memorial Scholarship

These awards are given by the Bagin Educational Foundation to honor graduate students with superior academics as well as those who add professionalism to the field of strategic communication.

Molly Rubinstein

Mollie Rubinstein is graduating from the Master's in Strategic Communication this spring. She also earned Graduate Certificates in School Public Relations and Integrated Marketing and New Media. Her Master's project focuses on the messaging affecting the enrollment and retention of neurodiverse college students. She works as an intern on campus for the PATH program. Mollie intends to open an Adult Day Program for young adults with special needs and pursue further graduate education.

Bagin Educational Awards

The student must be graduating in May or have graduated this past summer or past December. This medallion, sponsored by the Public Relations/Advertising Department, is in honor of Donald Bagin, founder of the PR graduate program, and given to a graduate student who has earned a superior academic GPA, has shown significant work or internship experience, and shows a potential for substantial contribution to the PR field.

Kelly Higginbotham

Kelly Higginbotham is graduating in May 2020 with a master’s degree in strategic communication. Kelly has previously interned with the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers, and is currently interning for the Philadelphia Union. After graduating, Kelly hopes to start a career in sports public relations or health care communications.

Katie Swope

Katie is currently finishing up her master’s in Strategic Communication. Currently working as a Graduate Coordinator for the Residential Learning and University Housing office, Katie plans on pursuing a career in higher education while becoming involved in her local government. She hopes to run for office in the future.

Regina Murphy

Gina Murphy is a student in the MA Strategic Communication program and will graduate this December. For the last nine years, she has been employed at the School of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a 2016 graduate of Rowan’s Liberal Studies/PR in the Workplace online BA program.

Traci Chappell

Traci Chappell, originally from PA, earned her undergraduate degree from Penn State University. She worked for Pfizer pharmaceuticals for six years before moving to Mullica Hill, NJ. Now employed within a school district, she is pursuing her master’s degree as the first step towards obtaining a school business administrator certificate.

NSPRA Scholarship

Recognizes a student who is pursuing graduate study in School Public Relations at Rowan University, leading to a School Public Relations Graduate Certificate or a degree in Public Relations with a School Public Relations concentration. The applicant should understand and be able to express the importance of communication and public relations in a Public School setting. 

Marryam Naqvi

Marryam Naqvi will graduate with her MA in Strategic Communication this May. She currently works at Campbell Library where she assists students and creates graphic design materials. Her thesis focuses on marketing techniques for higher education institutions. Marryam would like to pursue a career in Higher Education communication.

Anthony J. Fulginiti Award for Excellence in Public Relations 

This medallion is donated by Anthony J. Fulginiti, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Public Relations & Advertising and founder of Rowan’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The award recognizes a senior who excels in public relations.

Criteria: Superior academic GPA, leadership position in PRSSA, significant internships, university service, and community service

Griffin Gallagher

Griffin Gallagher is a senior Public Relations and Advertising major and Strategic Communications minor. He currently serves as President of AJF-PRSSA and has held three PR internships in the health care, travel/tourism, and publishing industries. He thanks his family, professors, and talented e-board for helping him receive this prestigious honor.

Basso-FitzGerald Medallion - For Excellence in Strategic Communication    

Named for two long time Department professors who emphasize the public relations role in Strategic counseling and leadership.  Given to a PR student who shows great promise as a PR counselor and who maintains a superior GPA with university and or community service.

Sara Todd 

Sara is a senior Public Relations and Advertising major who serves as the Communications Manager at the Volunteer Center of South Jersey. She is grateful for her experience at Rowan and would like to thank all who had a part in the decision for the Basso-FitzGerald Medallion.

Anne Sceia Klein Professional Advisor Award  - For Outstanding Professionalism   

The student must be graduating in May or have graduated this past summer or past December.  Given by Anne Sceia Klein, APR, Fellow PRSA, is president of Anne Kelin & Associates and a member of the Rowan University Public Relations Hall of Fame

Chloe Smith is an advertising major who transferred to Rowan in 2018. She has completed 3 communications internships with Smith Publicity Inc., the Rowan University International Studies department, and the non-profit, Back on My Feet. After graduation, she hopes to find a copywriting position at an agency or publication.

Colette Bleistine Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of Colette Bleistine, an AJF-PRSSA member, who lost a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis in 2012. She dedicated her life to building awareness and raising money to support cystic fibrosis research. This scholarship goes to a student who conducts extensive community service and shows leadership in PRSSA. 

Grace Coulthurst

A junior dual-major in public relations and advertising with a minor in communication studies, Grace serves as the Vice President of Special Events and Philanthropy for PRSSA. She interns in Rowan's Office of Media & Public Relations and has previously interned with Atlantic Health System. She aims for a career in media relations and crisis communication. 

Chris and Melissa Lukach Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship provides support to a Public Relations major who is currently involved in PRSSA and/or PRaction.

Andrew Smith

Andrew Smith is a junior transfer student, wrapping up his first year at Rowan University. He’s interned with Gourmet Dining and is an active member in Ad Dynamics. He’s interested in networking and looks forward to his future at Rowan University.

PR for Good Scholarship

The eligible Public Relations upper-class student possesses a 3.0 GPA. Recipient must hold a leadership position within community service activities and demonstrate a commitment to incorporating social responsibility into public relations strategies. Must be actively involved with the Rowan PRSSA Chapter. 

Sean Barnett 

Sean is a transfer student from RCGC. He’s a senior public relations major, minoring in strategic communication. Attending Rowan is one of the best choices he’s ever made.  After he graduates he would like to work at an agency in crisis communications.

  • #RowanAdvertising team wins Gold Ticket and first place (out of 133 teams) at national competition Marketing EDGE. Kailey Bertelson, Hannah Vendetta, Brittany Eng, Megan Jean, and Timothy Stanford, under guidance of Prof. Charles McLeester, put together the most compelling direct sales campaign for client Boxed. 


Jan. 2019
  • Profs. Bokyung Kim and Celine Hong have been awarded a $146,000, two-year grant from Camden Health Research Initiative. Their research project will focus on "Health Communication Campaign and Practice for Camden: Exploring the Variables Associated with Healthy Dietary Behaviors to Overcome Obesity Among Camden Residents Using Hierarchical Linear Model."  
  • Prof. Lou Rodolico presented at the 17th Annual Faculty Conference on Teaching Excellence (Temple University, Philadelphia). His project focused on "Experiential Learning in Student-Run Advertising and Public Relations Gencies: How Rowan University Supprots Applied Learning to Millennials and Generation Z."

  • Profs. Bokyung Kim and Celine Hong have been awarded a $1,250 STORI fund grant for their research project When Instagram meets “Brand Community.”
  • 12/13: Socratic Dialogue. Displace or develop? The untold story of gentrification

Nov. 2018
  • Students Ashley Carter and Anya Mourovannyi completed a prestigious 2-day workshop hosted by The Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations (New York City). The Challenge brought together public relations seniors from Monmouth University, Quinnipiac University, Rowan University, Seton Hall University and Syracuse University. Students were selected by their department chairs based on their high-leadership potential, demonstrated academic achievements and diverse backgrounds and experiences. The overall goal is to develop and inspire these emerging leaders and enrich the profession’s future.
