Application Announcement: Overnight trip to the Yale School of Art MFA Photography Program - Nov. 14-15, 2023

The Rowan Photography Program in the Department of Radio, Television & Film is excited to announce an opportunity for photography students. Up to six selected individuals will have the chance to visit the Yale School of Art and observe graduate MFA photography critiques conducted by the school’s critique panel, led by the program’s esteemed director and artist, Gregory Crewdson. This visit is a unique occasion to experience firsthand the methods and approaches of the world-renowned Yale’s photography program, globally recognized as the top photo program, producing graduates who have forged esteemed careers in the world of art.  This is an overnight trip and will also include a visit to the Yale Haas Library to view the graduate portfolios of artists who have gone on to establish respected art careers.

Application Requirements:

• Portfolio: Submit 10-15 images representing your work
• Essay: Write an essay of up to 750 words detailing how you believe this experience would benefit you and what you hope to gain from it.
• References: Provide the names and emails of two faculty members who can vouch for your work and conduct

Eligibility:

• Open to students from all levels in photography.  Priority will be given to students enrolled in the Minor in Photography.
• Adherence to all university policies regarding good conduct is mandatory.

Trip Details:

• This is an overnight trip.  Student travel expenses to get to and return from New Haven, CT will be reimbursed via University Travel submission.  Overnight hotel expenses will be prepaid. Students will be paired in hotel accommodations.
• Day 1 will consist of sitting in on four graduate photography critiques.  Day 2 will include a tour of the Haas Library to view the graduate portfolios of artists who have gone on to establish esteemed art careers.
• Selected students will be required to give a presentation on their experience to peers in one of their current photography classes OR write a detailed account of their time, to be shared via Rowan Photo social media platforms, allowing a wider audience to gain insights from their experience at Yale.

Selection Process:

• Selection will be determined by a team of Rowan University photo faculty in the Department of Radio, Television & Film.
