There are a number of great scholarship opportunities for RTF majors.  Applications are accepted from October 1st to February 28th each year, so don't miss out!

Graduate Student Travel Fund

The School of Graduate Studies is pleased to announce the Graduate Student Travel Fund to help students defray the cost of conference travel. Master’s and doctoral students enrolled in a degree-granting program who are invited to present research, scholarship, or showcase a creative/artist product at a conference or professional event can apply. Awardees will be given up to $600 to assist with their travel costs. Due to availability of funds, not all applicants will receive an award.

Ned Eckhardt Television Production Scholarship

This scholarship, in honor of Professor Ned Eckhardt, recognizes the academic achievements of a student who exhibits exceptional skills in video production, including documentaries, episodic television, music based work, journalistic works, narrative stories, and new media video.

Requirements for Application

  • Students must be RTF majors with a production specialization
  • Overall GPA of 2.75 or above
  • Junior or senior status in the academic year for which application is being submitted
  • Please submit the following materials:
    • Current resume, highlighting academic and creative accomplishments
    • A short portfolio of applicant's video/film work. Work may have been produced in a class, for a club, or independently. Links to projects are preferred
    • 1-2 page statement of why video production and storytelling are important to the candidate

 

The Salva Family Scholarship

Rowan University alumnus Lawrence J. Salva, chief accounting officer and controller of Comcast Corporation and Rowan Radio/TV/Film alumni, has established a $4,200 scholarship per year for RTF students. While a student at the University, Salva was the business manager for WGLS-FM and is a member of the station’s Hall of Fame.

Requirements for Application

  • Junior RTF major active in RTF activities, such as WGLS, Cinema Workshop, or RTN.
  • Overall GPA of 3.25 or above
  • Please submit the following materials:
    • Current resume, highlighting academic and creative accomplishments
    • 1-2 page cover letter

 

King Family Foundation Scholarship

The Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation was established in 1988 to support individuals, institutions and organizations committed to educational excellence in media.  

Requirements for Application

  • Students must be RTF majors with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Junior or senior status in the academic year for which application is being submitted
  • Please submit the following materials:
    • Current resume, highlighting academic and creative accomplishments
    • 1-2 page cover letter

 

Cindy Nannay Scholarship

Requirements for Application

  • Scholarship awarded to a senior Radio/TV/Film major with a 3.0 GPA. 
  • Please submit the following materials:
    • Current resume, highlighting academic and creative accomplishments
    • 1-2 page cover letter

 

Student Experiential Learning Fund

The Student Experiential Learning Fund (SELF) supports academic and professional development for RTF, BMAV, New Media, and Photography undergraduate students and Televisions Studies MA students. This fund helps offset costs associated with travel and professional development. Funds can be combined with additional department, college, and university resources. 

The Student Experiential Learning Fund provides students support of up to $750 in two areas:

  1. Travel related to academic area of study/creative practice. For example, attending a conference, presenting research or creative work at a conference, or presenting a creative work at a festival or showcase. Students presenting work will receive preference for full funding. 
  2. Professional Development. The activity must have demonstrable professionalization value for the student with respect to their academic or career goals. For example, a skill-building lab or workshop.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled in one of the RTF department’s programs (RTF BA or minor, MA in TV Studies, BMAV, Photography, New Media) in good standing at the university, and making adequate progress toward graduation.

  1. One award per student per year. Maximum of two awards over a student’s undergraduate or graduate career. 
  2. Teams of students may apply. Decisions will be made based on the team application and may not be subdivided or resubmitted if rejected.
  3. Applications must be submitted at least one month in advance of any travel. 
  4. All university-mandated travel request and reimbursements and any other forms must be completed, as required.

Evaluation Criteria. The committee will give preference to:

  1. Experiences that increase the student’s professional preparedness.
  2. Experiences that increase the visibility of RTF, either in the scholarly/creative world, in the community, or within Rowan University itself.
  3. Experiences that promote the department’s DEI mandates.
  4. Students who have not previously received SELF funding

Evaluation Process

  1. Decisions will be made by the RTF Scholarship Committee on their perspectives of the merit of the proposal. 
  2. Proposals may be only partially funded based on the merit of the request and/or the availability of funding.

Expenditures

  1. All funds will be awarded for and expended by the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
  2. Funds may be used to offset costs related to airfare, hotel/lodging, meals and conference registration, festival submission fees, production labs or workshops, and production costs. Other costs related to professional development may also qualify as eligible expenditures. 
  3. Funds awarded may not be used for rental cars, drinks or entertainment, including conference-related events.

Reporting

  1. The student will submit a report of ~250 words summarizing the benefits of the funded experience for their academic and professional growth.
  2. Final reports are due by June 30th.
