1300 cyclists from South Jersey were surveyed in September and October 2024 to determine their perceptions about cyclist safety in the area. Responses showed cyclists do not feel safe riding on roads despite laws allowing them to. They highlighted a lack of cycling-friendly infrastructure, a lack of awareness about laws regarding cyclists and safe passing, and minimal efforts to enforce local cycling laws. Respondents noted drivers often act in an aggressive manner toward them (purposely cutting them off, coal rolling, honking, shouting obscenities, or throwing objects), and shared either their own stories of being hit by a car, or about friends who had been hit and killed by a car while riding. The responses reveal a community of cyclists deeply concerned about safety, infrastructure, and the need for stronger legal protections and enforcement. There is a strong desire for change, both in terms of physical road conditions and the cultural attitudes toward cycling.

Report forthcoming in Fall 2024.
This research is the product of a partnership with the MBA and MS Finance Fellowship program in the William G. Rohrer College of Business. Through the program, fellows work on a project focusing on an area of social impact. This research will conduct a thorough analysis of the current landscape of AI tools in sports to evaluate the costs associated with these technologies, assess their applications across various sports and levels, and identify potential gaps where certain sports or tiers may be left behind in the AI revolution.
