Diana King Master of Arts in Television Studies: Overview

The Diana King Master of Arts in Television Studies (housed within the Radio, Television, & Film Department in the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts) encourages students to explore the principals of writing for, on, or about, television. In fulfilling the Master of Arts in Television Studies, students may focus on a central area of interest or create a diverse course of study.

Those who will benefit from the Master of Arts in Television Studies and the courses we offer include:

• Educators who currently teach K-12 or who wish to teach television studies at the college level
• Professionals who wish to write about television for their career or for fun
• Students who wish to prepare for advanced graduate work leading to a PhD.
• Students who have a general interest in the global television industry

For students currently enrolled at Rowan, we offer the Combined Advanced Degree Program in Television Studies which allows students to complete both a BA in Radio, Television, & Film and an MA in Television Studies in five years.

Undergraduates of any major who meet the requirements may take our graduate classes for undergraduate credit through Senior Privilege.  Upon admission to the MA in Television Studies, these credits may be put towards graduate credit. 

Application process: Applications to the Master of Arts in Television Studies are administered by Rowan Global.  A GPA of 3.0 is required to apply but no GRE.

Partial scholarships may be available.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships

MA students will also have the opportunity to work as Graduate Teaching Assistants. These positions are funded with a stipend of $6,000 per term and provide valuable professionalization and university-level teaching experience.

GTAs work closely with lead instructors from RTF’s core faculty to manage and run their own discussion sections for lower division media studies classes like Applied Media Aesthetics (an introductory film and television analysis course).
