Ceramics

Our fully equipped ceramics studio provides the laboratory for aspiring entrepreneurs, designers, and art educators to learn the skills necessary for success in meeting their own career goals. Courses in the ceramics area challenge students to design and execute projects that express their unique conceptual ideas. Students in the ceramic arts create exciting portfolios of work that demonstrates mastery of basic and advanced techniques and development of their personal style.

Ceramics students become proficient with a variety of firing methods spanning from primitive to state-of-the-art. They learn the safe and appropriate use of equipment and materials for independent creative practice. Besides being a primary studio opportunity for art majors, ceramics courses can satisfy the university’s Artistic and Creative Experience requirement.

Our students have started their own businesses, entered leading graduate programs, become educators and arts administrators in the schools, in major cultural institutions, and in the community. Students from the primary studio area of ceramics compete successfully in a range of local, regional, and national competitions.
