Application to the BFA Studio Art Degree
Students seeking the BFA in Studio Art degree must submit a body of work to the studio faculty for a review. For most students this review takes place in the second semester of the sophomore year, or during your fourth semester. The BFA application process evaluates the potential for success in the BFA program. Students are expected to show skills and knowledge applied to artistic problems. The work should show uniqueness, resourcefulness and commitment, all in all the potential to function as a professional artist. Students are being observed through the first two years of studio work, prior to the BFA application; they should approach all course work with the attitude of the professional artist if they expect to be successful in the BFA application.
The BFA Application shall include:
- The completed BFA application form (available in the Art Department office)
- Six pieces of art-work completed in studio level 1 or 2 courses; including work in the media of the primary studio in which you would like to focus
- All work should be labeled with your name, title, media, date, project, and instructor
- Work completed in core curriculum can be submitted as supplemental material, but should not be included as one of the six pieces in portfolio
- You will be evaluated at the BFA application with accepted-making satisfactory progress to pursue BFA, reapply-work submitted does not yet meet standards necessary to pursue BFA, resubmit next semester and consult with your advisor, not accepted-work submitted does not meet departmental standards
Additional information about the BFA application is available in the Art Department Office.
