Professor Qadar concentrated in government as an undergraduate at Harvard University—with a focus on international relations, Sino-U.S. relations and diplomacy. She was awarded a grant from Harvard Asia Studies Center-Harvard China Fund for research and work in Shanghai, China. Professor Qadar has lived and worked in China, serving as the city manager for a global communication company with clients including Proctor and Gamble, Exxon Mobile, Colgate Palmolive, Underwriters Laboratory (UL) as well as Chinese corporate clients such as Tencent and Huaiwei. Professor Qadar received her Master's Degree in human communication from the University of Arizona where her study focused on interpersonal, intergroup and intercultural communication. She completed her master's thesis on the effects of self-talk in interpersonal conflict situations. Her thesis was awarded ProQuest Global's "Most Accessed Theses and Dissertations" award (top 25 of 2 million worldwide). She has worked on intercultural communication research published in the Journal of Communication and featured by the World Economic Forum. Professor Qadar serves as a communication consultant and instructor working with corporate, governmental, educational, non-profit, and community groups and organizations.

She loves to sew and create original garments, practice Mandarin Chinese, dance, cook and garden.

Research Interests

Professor Qadar's research interests include the effects of self-talk at different levels of communication; the interaction and gaps between micro and macro-level communication; and intergroup and intercultural communication—focused on the intensive use of communication for more peaceful outcomes in human life.
