Student IECB Resources & Efforts
Our students are active in IECB efforts, creating student groups for underrepresented peers, winning awards, and sharing the stories of LGBTQ+ faculty and students on social platforms. Below you will find a list of these projects as well as funding and scholarships available to our students.

Funding & scholarships
Edelman Scholars
Ric & Jean Edelman’s total $10,000,000 gift is dedicated completely to student scholarships. In the new configuration of the award, 6-7 students per year will receive full-ride scholarships and a $17,000 launch fund to establish their future if they graduate in four years. The gift targets achieving students of very modest incomes. The selection committee will work with various entities (R.O.P.E.S., local high schools, philanthropic organizations, alumni working with underrepresented youngsters, etc.) to recruit students. In the first year of the revamped scholarship, 4 of the 6 students are from underrepresented groups.
CCCA First-generation Scholarship
Rowan's Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Roberta Harvey and Edelman CCCA Dean Dr. Sanford Tweedie were lead funders on this endowed scholarship that provides funding to 1-2 first-generation students with any CCCA major. Currently, the fund is approaching $50,000.
Student Travel and Professional Development Fund (TAPD)
Provides up to $7,500/year for students to go to conferences, attend workshops, etc. Knowing that these expenses can hit underrepresented students hardest, the motivation behind this was to provide funding so these students can increase their opportunities for experiential learning outside the campus.
Trymaine Lee Diversity in Media Scholarship
Established in spring of 2019 by Pulitzer Prize- and Emmy Award-winning journalist and alumnus Trymaine Lee, the Trymaine Lee Diversity in Media Scholarship is an income-based scholarship for first-generation Journalism students participating in a Rowan University diversity initiative program.
Student-led efforts
- Gracie Award winners - Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS FM has won 12 Gracie Awards since 2006. The most recent was in 2023 for "A Community Affair" with Megan Steckler
- Women of Westby is a student art acitivist group "devoted to tackling social justice issues and promoting student & alumni art."
Experiential learning
Edelman CCCA Dean's office internship - In 2021, the Dean's office welcomed their first IECB-focused intern. The student in this position manages the CCCA IECB section of the College newsletter which highlights events, students and IECB initiatives.They attend IECB-focused events on behalf of the College such as the Student Center's Pride event and they help ensure the content CCCA shares is diverse and inclusive.
