Time Sweeps Aurora

The school of Earth and Environment held its annual Earth Day celebration on Time Sweeps Green outside of Discovery Hall. “Times Sweep Aurora” was displayed upon the sculpture “Time Sweeps” by Thea Alvin. Nighttime public spaces are often barren, uninteresting, and sparsely used; this piece explores the possibilities of enhancing public nightscapes and seeks to engage and invite the passerby into both the event and the space. The exhibit offered both light and spectacle, both necessary to spark curiosity and use of nighttime environments. The content was abstract and earthly, fitting the theme of the event, but the possibilities content-wise are endless. Next steps will include experimenting with content touching on themes of play and interactivity.
